What does your job involve?

Clinically I work as a respiratory and critical care physiotherapist. I also teach BSc and MSc Physiotherapy students at Coventry University. I am also a DPhil student in Clinical neurosciences at the University of Oxford studying how to get patients safely out of ventilators following a traumatic brain injury.

How did you get to this job (education etc.)?

I was mainly interested in human anatomy and physiology which motivated me to study physiotherapy. My first job was based in a Cardiothoracic Critical care and I loved it. I have always been interested in teaching and so I sought for a lecturer job. Research had always been at the back of my mind and so I attained a Oxford NIHR BRC preparatory research fellowship which later formed the basis of my current DPhil

Do you feel being LGBT has affected your career decisions?

It has not affected my career decisions as such, No

Have you had any reactions from colleagues about being LGBT, either good or bad?

I have been lucky that the organisations and the education sectors that I have worked and studied have been inclusive and LGBT friendly.

Did you have any role models growing up (LGBT, STEM, totally unrelated.)?

Well I think most of the LGBT celebrities. However I should say I found my own path with the help of a psychotherapist.

What are your plans for the future?

Have a happy balance between my clinical, research and teaching and hope all the 3 will interlink well.
