What does your job involve?
I work on elucidation of biosynthetic alkaloid pathways in medicinal plants. My work involves a lot of metabolomics and transcriptomics, as well as some analytical techniques and molecular biology.
How did you get to this job (education etc.)?
When I was doing my BSc degree in Molecular biology and genetics from the University of East Anglia in the UK, I was fortunate enough to start working as a technician in an associated institute. That experience led me to staying in the lab and starting a PhD!
Do you feel being LGBT has affected your career decisions?
Yes, especially the location of institutions I wanted to work at
Have you had any reactions from colleagues about being LGBT, either good or bad?
Yes, both good and bad, but mostly good
Did you have any role models growing up (LGBT, STEM, totally unrelated.)?
My idols were mostly musicians from feminist punk bands…
What are your plans for the future?
Finishing my PhD!
